I don't get on my SOPA Box often, but I feel today warrants it. Terrible puns aside, I feel that the SOPA and PIPA acts going through the Congress and Senate are truly unhealthy bills regarding the internet. Though these bills do have the power to stop pirates and prevent copyright infringement, they go too far in allowing not only the government, but internet providers themselves to block entire websites, foreign or domestic, on the grounds that they MIGHT be providing pirated material. And they can block with complete immunity.
Without getting too long winded, these bills have the potential to block legitimate websites, stifle creativity in art and new software development, smother freedom of speech and impede one's ability to seek out unbiased and unfiltered news and information.
And let it be said, there are already many successful laws in place which allow people to legally go after and remove pirated material online.
So today, I am joining today's internet blackout in protest of these two bills. For more information on these bills (written much better than this post, BTW), click here now. And if you feel the same way I do, please write to your elected officials. Or, if you think I am completely wrong, write and tell your officials to pursue these two bills. I am not here to tell you what to think.
We can stop piracy without infringing upon our rights.

If you ever get the chance to see Moby live, I suggest you do so. Even though a lot of his videos and tracks may strike you with the image that he is this little tea sipping vegan who lives in his own little bubble of tranquility and oddities (kinda like this video), his stage performances are something to behold! Instead of gentle waves breezing over a placid sea of perpetually hungery and protein deprived zombies, his shows rock the crowd with one tsunami after another until the entire crowd is deaf!
With that being said, here is a video which might lead you to think I am full of crap. But, if you enjoy Moby's works, you'll like this track a lot. And the 130 bpm Ferry Corsten Remix I have for this Thursday night will get you out of your seats and dancing (unless your driving, then pull over first).
